Steve Jobs, co-founder and two-time CEO of Apple, announced his resignation today. Jobs has been in poor health since he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004. He will not be leaving the company altogether—in fact, he has been named chairman of the board.
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, that day has come.”
Former COO Tim Cook will replace Jobs as CEO.
We hope that under Cook’s leadership, Apple will make an effort to produce green electronics and reduce its carbon footprint.
